This is a Garmin transom mount transducer with a six pin connector, made for older Garmin depthsounders and plotters. It works at 50/200KHz and reads depth and temperature. A transducer supplies raw data only, so it has to feed a processor, such as a sounder or a black box sonar module, before you see a depth reading. Installation instructions come with the transducer kits.

Our take

This is a six pin transducer for older Garmin depthsounders and plotters, so confirm your unit takes that connector before you fit it. It passes raw data only, so a sounder or black box module has to do the processing to show depth.

From our buying guide

Raymarine's general guidance is 200 kHz for water under about 60 m (200 ft) and 50 kHz for deep water. In-hull transducers avoid a hole, but lose performance and need a solid fiberglass bottom.

Check before you buy:

  • The housing suits your hull. Airmar and Raymarine rule out plastic on a wood hull and bronze on a metal one.
  • It connects to your display, since an analog transducer needs an interface.
  • A through-hull will be fitted to the maker's guide. Garmin says its own should be installed by a qualified marine installer.
