Where to buy
The NavPilot 300/PG-M is Furuno's adaptive autopilot with a 4.1" colour LCD and a Bluetooth gesture controller that steers the boat from anywhere aboard within 10 meters. It ships with a 1.6L pumpset for multiple-cylinder steering systems and the PG700 fluxgate compass heading sensor. On outboard boats from 24 to 50 feet with one to four engines, Fantum Feedback does away with the physical rudder feedback unit.
Our take
Fantum Feedback drops the physical rudder feedback unit on outboard installs, so there is less to fit and wire. Point Lock is the exception, since that feature still calls for a Rudder Reference Unit.
From our buying guide
Raymarine describes a typical autopilot as four parts: a heading sensor, a control unit, a drive and a control head. Bought alone, the parts don't steer, and Raymarine says the operator must stay at the helm at all times.
Check before you buy:
- The box list has the drive and control head you need, since packs can leave out a major part.
- It's rated for your boat the way the maker measures it. Raymarine sizes on fully laden displacement, often 20% above the designed figure.
- On hydraulic steering, the pump's range covers your steering cylinder's volume.
