The Guardian G-16 is a 7 lbs (3.2 kg) fluke anchor in aluminum magnesium alloy, sized by Fortress for boats of 28' to 33' (8 to 10 M). Its working load is 1,075 lbs (488 kg). It has one fixed 32-degree fluke angle. The shank is 29" (737mm) long, and the materials are rust-proof and non-magnetic.

Our take

The single 32-degree fluke angle means there is no setting to change for different bottoms, and the maker sizes the G-16 for boats of 28' to 33'. At 7 lbs with a 1,075 lb working load, it is easy to carry and stow.

From our buying guide

The Coast Guard does not regulate anchors, so no anchor carries its approval. Each maker sizes on its own assumptions, so a size on one chart does not translate to another.

Check before you buy:

  • You know what wind the maker's chart assumes. Rocna's assumes 50 knots and Fortress's 30 knots.
  • It fits your bow, since makers say some designs fit bow rollers, bow pulpits or bowsprits better.
  • The type suits your bottom. A Coast Guard Auxiliary article says the right type depends a lot on your boat, your anchoring and the make-up of the bottom.
