Manuals

This is the First Alert PRO10, a rechargeable extinguisher rated 4-A:60-B:C. It has a durable metal head and is made to deal with fires in wood, paper, cloth, electrical equipment and flammable liquids. A pin with a safety seal guards against accidental discharge. The gauge is color-coded and easy to read, a mount bracket and strap are included, and 4-step instructions are printed on the body. After use, a certified professional can recharge it.

Our take

The color-coded gauge on the PRO10 is built to be easy to read, so checking the unit takes a glance. It can also be recharged by a certified professional after use, so a discharge does not have to mean replacing the whole extinguisher.

From our buying guide

Powered boats with permanently installed fuel tanks, or spaces where fuel vapors can be trapped, must carry them in a number set by length. The Coast Guard's FAQ says a 10-B counts only as one 5-B, even though it contains more agent.

Check before you buy:

  • The label on the bottle states 'Marine Type USCG Approved'.
  • The date on a disposable leaves it plenty of life, since the Coast Guard's FAQ says it is expired once it is more than 12 years old.
  • It comes with its bracket, since makers tie the approval to it.
