This Davis chafe guard is a 16 inch nylon sleeve that fits lines from 3/8 to 7/8 inch. It is sold as a pair and made in white. It closes with hook fasteners on the inside surface that grip the line, so no extra ties are needed. It can be fitted anywhere along the line and moved when needed, for example over a cleat, a cap rail or at an anchor roller.
Our take
The hook fasteners inside the 16 inch nylon sleeve grip the line without separate ties, so the guard can be slid to wherever the line rubs and moved again later. It covers lines from 3/8 to 7/8 inch, so check your dock line size.

Chafe is repeated rubbing that weakens and cuts a line's fibers over time. Polyform says always to use chafing gear where mooring lines run through bow chocks or are likely to touch deck hardware.
Check before you buy:
- It fits your line. Davis's 397, for one, takes line from 3/8 to 1 in.
- It suits how the line runs. Some slide through chocks, and some have a seam to face away from any bend around a cleat or roller.
