The Canon 3639C002 is a compact 8x20 binocular with image stabilization, which works to cut down handshake vibration. It offers 8x magnification for distant views through a 20 mm objective lens. It is described as lightweight and compact for easy portability, and it comes with a protective carrying case and an adjustable neck strap.
Our take
Image stabilization in an 8x20 body is the point of this Canon, and it works to minimize handshake vibration, so hand-held views should be steadier. It comes with a case and neck strap, which makes it easy to carry aboard.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
