The Bushnell Prime 10x42mm is a roof prism binocular in black, sold under part number BP1042BF. The model name gives its size: 10x magnification with 42mm objective lenses. Little else is stated about this model, such as field of view, weight or weather sealing, so confirm those details with Bushnell before relying on it on deck. Its size and finish are the only confirmed details.
Our take
The 10x magnification and 42mm objectives are the only performance figures confirmed for this Prime, so field of view, weight and weather sealing are open questions. For use in spray on deck, confirm the sealing with Bushnell first.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
