The Bushnell Pacifica 20x50 is a porro prism binocular with 20x magnification and 50mm objective lenses. Its optics are fully coated to pass more light, and the Insta-Focus system is there to bring moving targets into focus quickly. Non-slip rubber pads on the body give a secure grip in all weather, and fold-down eyecaps are fitted. It is a straightforward general-purpose glass for watching things at a distance.
Our take
The Insta-Focus system is built for fast focus on moving targets, which matters when what you are watching is a vessel or a marker passing across the water. The rubber grip pads are meant to keep a secure hold in all weather.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
