The Bushnell H2O is an 8x42 roof-prism binocular with BaK-4 prism glass. Its housing is rated IPX7, meaning it is good for 30 minutes under 1 meter of water, and it is nitrogen purged. Eye relief is 17 mm and the field of view is 350 ft at 1,000 yards. Together with the 643 g weight, those are the practical numbers for this 8x42.
Our take
The IPX7 sealing, good for 30 minutes under 1 meter of water, along with a nitrogen-purged housing, speaks to wet conditions on deck. It has no locking diopter, so the diopter setting is not locked in place.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
