The Bushnell H2O BBC1042W is a 10x42mm roof prism binocular in a camo finish. It uses BaK-4 prisms and multi-coated optics to keep the view bright and clear. The body is rated waterproof, with O-ring sealing and a nitrogen fill for fog-free performance. A rubber armor coating absorbs shock and gives a firm grip, and the eyecups twist up. One large knob in the centre handles focus, and the eye relief is on the longer side.
Our take
Nitrogen purging and O-ring sealing are what back the waterproof, fog-free rating, so spray and damp air should not cloud the glass. The single large centre-focus knob keeps adjustment simple when conditions are wet.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
