The Bushnell 137500 is a 7x50 marine binocular with a built-in compass. The maker describes the marine series as buoyant, waterproof and corrosion resistant, and the views are fogproof. Multi-coated optics and BaK-4 prism glass produce a bright, crisp picture. Rugged rubber armoring gives a sure grip and absorbs shock, which helps keep them from sliding in rough conditions.
Our take
The built-in compass on this 7x50 puts a heading check in the same hands as the view. Because the marine series is described as buoyant, a pair that goes over the side should stay on the surface, and the waterproof, corrosion resistant build is made for salt and spray.
From our buying guide
Steiner calls 7x the marine standard. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes the image more sensitive to hand shake.
Check before you buy:
- The water rating comes with its depth and time, since ratings vary widely between makers.
- The maker says what floats, the body or only a strap, since some make no flotation claim at all.
- A stabilised pair has a water rating you're happy with, since not every one carries a waterproof rating.
