The Bluestorm Trek is a foam paddling vest in Nitro Red, rated as a Coast Guard approved Type III. It comes in one adult universal size, for chests from 30 to 56 inches. A front zipper and waist buckle close it. Five adjustment points, two at the shoulders, two at the sides and one at the waist, let you tune the fit. The foam is contoured to cut bulk, and the lining is breathable and quick drying.
Our take
The Trek's five adjustment points, at the shoulders, sides and waist, are how one universal size covers a 30 to 56 inch chest. Contoured foam keeps bulk down, and the Type III approval puts it in the paddling-vest class.
From our buying guide
US rules count Coast Guard-approved jackets. One approved only to European or ISO standards doesn't meet the US carriage rules, however good it is.
Check before you buy:
- The approval number is on the label, and the jacket fits you as that label marks.
- You're getting the US version, since some jackets are sold in two.
- If it's Level 50, it only counts toward what you must carry when it's worn.
