This Blue Sea Systems M-Series battery switch is a four-position selector with a knob, rated 300A continuous. The studs are tin-plated copper and accept 3/8 inch (M10) ring terminals. The rear contacts sit under an isolating cover built from three snap-in side pieces, and the case can be mounted on a surface, at the rear, or on a front panel. It is rated IP66 for water projected in powerful jets.
Our take
The IP66 rating on this four-position switch covers water projected in powerful jets, so the case is built to handle spray. Its 300A continuous rating and tin-plated copper studs, made for conductivity and corrosion resistance, are the figures to check against your wiring.
From our buying guide
Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.
Check before you buy:
- Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
- It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
- If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
