The Blue Sea Systems 9003e is a single-circuit on/off battery switch from the e-Series. It is rated for 350 amps continuous, 600 amps for 5 minutes, and 2,000 amps for 10 seconds of cranking, at up to 48 volts DC. It is ignition protected for gasoline boats. The case mounts on a surface or rear panel. Those ratings assume 4/0 AWG cable on the 3/8"-16 studs. It has no alternator field disconnect and no battery combine function.
Our take
The 9003e's 2,000 amp, 10 second cranking rating and 350 amp continuous rating cover a big inboard starter circuit when wired with 4/0 cable. It only switches on and off, so a boat with two banks needs a different switch.
From our buying guide
Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.
Check before you buy:
- Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
- It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
- If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
