The Blue Sea Systems 7702 is a 24V magnetic-latching remote battery switch with a manual control knob built into the solenoid. It is operated from a remote switch, and it holds whichever state it was left in until someone changes it, so it draws no current to stay on or off. With 4/0 cables it is rated for 500A continuous, 700A for 5 minutes and 1450A cranking for 30 seconds. The studs are 3/8 inch tin-plated copper, and the case is rated IP66 and ignition protected to SAE J1171.
Our take
The manual knob on the solenoid body lets you switch the 7702 with or without power, so a dead control circuit does not leave the banks stuck on or off. The 500A figure is quoted with 4/0 cables, so size your cable run to match.
From our buying guide
Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.
Check before you buy:
- Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
- It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
- If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
