This Blue Sea Systems 7700 is a 12V remote battery switch built on a magnetic latching solenoid, so it stays open or closed until someone changes it. It is rated 500A continuous with 4/0 cables, and it can be operated from the helm, nav station or a control panel. A manual knob sits on the solenoid itself, and it can be locked OFF for battery maintenance. The studs are 3/8 inch, the enclosure is IP66, and there is no continuous current draw.
Our take
Magnetic latching holds the contacts open or closed with no continuous current draw, so the 500A switch only uses power while changing state. The manual knob on the solenoid works without electric power and can be locked OFF for maintenance.
From our buying guide
Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.
Check before you buy:
- Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
- It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
- If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
