The Blue Sea Systems 7700100 is a 12V ML remote battery switch built around a 500A latching solenoid, with a manual control knob on the unit itself. It holds its open or closed state until changed and has no continuous current draw. It is rated 500A continuous and 700A for five minutes, is IP66 water resistant, and is SAE J1171 ignition protected. This is the bulk pack, so it has no remote switch included.

Our take

The manual knob on the solenoid lets you operate this switch with or without power, and it can be locked OFF for battery maintenance, which also blocks remote operation. The bulk pack has no remote switch, so you supply your own.

From our buying guide

Perko says its selector switches can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and that they let you put batteries in parallel for emergency starting. Battle Born advises against that connection with its LiFePO4 batteries.

Check before you buy:

  • Its continuous and 5-minute ratings suit your system. Perko rates its medium-duty 8501 at 250 A continuous.
  • It has an alternator field disconnect if you need one. Perko says its AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running.
  • If it's going in a gasoline engine space, the maker lists it as ignition protected.
