This is the red port sidelight from Attwood's Pulsar line. It shows a red light across 112.5 degrees and is made for boats up to 39.4 feet (12 m), with a stated visibility of 1 mile. It bolts straight to the deck with two #10 fasteners and runs on 12 VDC through 7 inch wire leads. An 8-watt wedge base lamp is included. A twist bayonet lock secures the lens and cover to the base, and the cover hides the fasteners and keeps water out. The body measures 2-3/8 inch across and 1-7/16 inch tall.
Our take
With 1 mile of visibility over 112.5 degrees and a 39.4 ft (12 m) boat length limit, this is the port light for smaller boats. The cover and lens conceal the fasteners and seal out water, so the two #10 screws holding it to the deck are not left exposed.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
