This is the Aqua Signal Series 33 stern light, a side mount LED unit in a black polycarbonate housing with a clear lens. The light source is a 1.5W white LED running on 12 volts. It shows over a 135 degree arc with a visible range of 2 nm. The maker says it is designed for both powerboat and sailboat applications.
Our take
The 135 degree arc and 2 nm visible range define what this stern light does: it covers the sector behind the boat out to 2 nm. It uses a 1.5W LED on a 12 volt supply, and the maker lists it for both power and sail.
From our buying guide
The lights a boat must show depend on its length and how it's being driven. A sailboat under power is a power-driven vessel and shows power-driven lights.
Check before you buy:
- The label gives its visibility in nautical miles, and that range meets the minimum for your boat's length.
- The maker rates it for boats of your length.
- A replacement LED is certified with the fixture it's going into, since the Coast Guard warns that replacement lighting may not meet the rules.
