Sirius's electronic distress light (C-1003), with an orange daytime distress flag and a whistle. Sirius says the light is built to comply with 46 CFR 161.013, flashes S-O-S for up to 60 hours, lists the LED at 75 candelas, and comes with three C alkaline batteries; it recommends checking and replacing them at the start of each season. An electric distress light counts for night only. Sirius's page does not give the flag's size or a 160.072 marking, so check the flag's label.
Our take
Buy this if you want a night distress signal that is not a pyrotechnic flare and you will also carry a separate daytime signal. The maker says the light is certified as a night visual distress signal under 46 CFR 161.013. It covers night only, so it is not a complete day solution on its own.
