- Class D
The Simrad RS100 is a black box VHF radio supplied with a handset and speaker. It is a Class D DSC unit and talks to other equipment over NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000. The system can grow to four wired and four wireless handsets, with up to four external speakers and an optional loudhailer. It has an intercom function, a 60-second audio rewind, and Track Buddy for following up to five MMSIs. It does not receive AIS.
Our take
Up to four wired and four wireless handsets means the RS100 can put a radio station in several places on a boat, and the intercom function lets those stations talk to each other. It does not receive AIS, so that has to be covered by other gear.
