Ritchie's sailboat bulkhead compass (BN-202), with a 4-1/2 in (115 mm) CombiDial that reads from above or in front, a built-in inclinometer, internal gimbals and built-in compensators, for a 5.75 in (146 mm) hole. Its lighting is amber LED at 12 V; for boats with 24 V or 32 V systems, Ritchie says dropping resistors are available.
Our take
Buy this if you sail and want a bulkhead compass you can adjust yourself. The sapphire jewel and hardened steel pivot, internal gimbals and built-in compensators are solid features, and the 40 degree heel gauge suits a sailboat. Skip it if your bulkhead is not square to the centerline and vertical, since the maker says a fairing block is required. It also needs a 5.75 in hole, and 24 V or 32 V boats must add dropping resistors.
