The larger of Raymarine's self-contained tiller pilots, rated for boats up to 4,500 kg (10,000 lb) maximum displacement, which Raymarine says to read against the fully laden weight, often 20% above the designed displacement. Its 2006 handbook gives 77 kg of thrust and 4.5 seconds lock to lock, against 57 kg and 8 seconds for the ST1000+, and two critical mounting dimensions: 589 mm (23.2 in) from socket to tiller pin, and 460 mm (18 in) from the rudder-stock centerline to the pin. Raymarine says it is for coastal cruising, not offshore passage making.
Our take
This suits a light to mid-weight tiller-steered sailboat doing coastal cruising that wants a SeaTalk-capable pilot. Raymarine rates it to 4,500 kg, but laden displacement is often about 20% above design, and owners report it marginal near that rating, pointing heavier boats to the ST4000. Skip it for wheel steering or offshore passages, which the maker rules out.
