Perko Medium Duty Battery Selector Switch (8501)

Brand:
Perko
Part no:
8501

Perko's medium-duty selector, rated 250 A continuous and 360 A for 5 minutes, for 6 to 32 V systems. Perko says it is make-before-break and can be switched between 1, ALL and 2 with the engine running, and lists it as ignition protected without naming a test standard. It has no alternator field disconnect: Perko's AFD models protect non-unitized alternators if the switch is turned OFF with the engine running. Battle Born says an emergency house-to-start parallel switch is not recommended with its LiFePO4 batteries. Check the part number is Perko's 8501.

Our take

A sound pick for a gasoline boat that needs a medium duty selector switch, since Perko states it is ignition protected and can go in a gasoline engine room. It has no alternator field disconnect. Perko puts that on the 8503 and 8504, so look at those if you want it. Check the continuous and short-term ratings against your loads before you buy.
