Onyx General Purpose Life Jacket
- Brand:
- Onyx
- Part no:
- 103000-100-004-12, 103000-500-004-12
A plain foam vest for adults 90 lb and over (universal size; red item 103000-100-004-12, blue item 103000-500-004-12), which Onyx says is USCG and Transport Canada approved; Onyx states no Level or Type, so read the label. Foam floats with no action needed, and the Coast Guard says inflatables are not appropriate for weak swimmers or non-swimmers.
Our take
A sensible choice for an adult who wants a plain, lightweight Type III vest for general boating, and the belts and chest strap should help it stay put. Skip it if you want an inflatable or harness style, or if you need a confirmed fit for a particular chest size. No size range or buoyancy figure was published, so fit is the main unknown.
