Kidde's single-use marine extinguisher (MAR5), UL rated 5-B:C, with 2.00 lb of agent on its data sheet. Kidde says it is USCG approved with the UL-approved strap bracket that comes with it (322057). The Coast Guard says a disposable extinguisher must be removed from service 12 years after the date of manufacture stamped on it, and that the year is generally on the bottom or next to the UL label.
Our take
This suits a small boat that needs a compact 5-B:C bottle for Class B and C fires, and the strap bracket is included, with Kidde stating USCG approval on that bracket. Skip it if you want staying power: 8 to 11 seconds on a 2 lb charge is short, and it carries no Class A rating. It is single-use, due for replacement 12 years after its stamped date, and the dry chemical is corrosive to electronics.
