Garmin Reactor 40 Hydraulic Autopilot with SmartPump v2

Brand:
Garmin
Part no:
010-02794-01

Garmin's Reactor 40 for hydraulic steering, with its SmartPump v2 and GHC 50 control head, as part 010-02794-01. Garmin rates SmartPump v2 for steering cylinders of 4 to 24 cu in, and its Shadow Drive sensor suspends autopilot control when someone turns the helm by hand. Hydraulic hoses and fittings are not in the box, and Garmin says a qualified marine installer should fit it, followed by its Dockside and Sea Trial wizards, the second in calm water.

Our take

Worth a look if you steer a hydraulically steered boat and want a pump and autopilot bundle from one maker. The NMEA judges named it a 2021 award winner, citing minimal heading error, course deviation, rudder movement and power consumption. Shadow Drive drops out when the helm is turned and re-engages on a steady course. The SmartPump v2 fits most hydraulic setups, so check yours.
