Fujinon Techno-Stabi TS-X1440 Stabilized Binoculars

Brand:
Fujinon
Part no:
TS-X1440

Fujifilm's 14x40 stabilized binocular (TS-X1440): a gyro and gimbal rated to correct ±6°, which Fujifilm says corrects vibration from ocean waves as well as hand shake. It runs about 30 hours on four AA cells, depending on battery type and conditions, weighs 1,300 g without batteries, has a 2.9 mm exit pupil and centre focus, and passed a 1 m, 5-minute water test, but Fujifilm says it is not usable underwater. Fujifilm calls the body non-sinking.

Our take

Buy this if you want a steady image from a boat that moves. Fujifilm rates the stabiliser at ±6 degrees and says it covers wave and vehicle vibration, not just hand shake. The body is non-sinking and the maker calls it safe in sudden rain or near water, but not for use in water. At 1,300 g without batteries, plus four AA cells, it is heavy. Skip it if you want something light for the cockpit locker. Battery life is not stated.
