First Alert MARINE1 Rechargeable Marine Fire Extinguisher, 1-A:10-B:C
- Brand:
- First Alert
- Part no:
- FE1A10GR
First Alert's rechargeable marine extinguisher (model FE1A10GR), rated 1-A:10-B:C, with a mount, bracket and strap. First Alert says it can be recharged by a certified professional after use, and its manual says a certified dealer should service it once a year. First Alert's own page makes no Coast Guard statement, so check the label for 'Marine Type USCG Approved'. A rechargeable is not removed at 12 years; the Coast Guard's FAQ says it must be maintained annually by a technician, though the regulation sets no annual-service duty.
Our take
A 2.5 lb dry powder extinguisher rated 1-A:10-B:C, approved for marine use only when it is held in the supplied bracket. Mount it there so it releases immediately. The maker says it is for small fires that have just started, so skip it if you expect to fight anything bigger. You also cannot service it yourself, since the maker says never to try. The ten-year warranty is a plus.
