B&G Vulcan 7 Sailing Chartplotter
- Brand:
- B&G
- Part no:
- 000-14082-001
A sailing chartplotter that B&G aims at coastal cruising and club racing, with SailSteer, laylines that can correct for tide, a race panel and a wind plot. On power alone it is a plain chartplotter. B&G says to get the most from the sailing data you start with a wind sensor, then add a boat-speed sensor and a compass on the NMEA 2000 network, though its manual lets GPS speed and course stand in for boat speed and heading in the true-wind calculations. This is the no-transducer model, so budget for one if you want depth.
Our take
A sound pick for a sailor who wants a bright, touch-driven 7-inch plotter on an NMEA 2000 network, with SailSteer, SailingTime, RacePanel and Laylines on board. The 1200-nit screen should read well in sun. The sailing data needs a wind sensor on the network, then boat speed and a compass. It has no radar fitted, so Broadband Radar is extra.
