The Sahara Mk2 S1200 (part 5512-7) is a 12-volt automatic bilge pump rated at 1200 US GPH. It switches itself on and off with a mechanical float and microswitch, and the maker's flow chart plots it out to about 1200 GPH at near-zero head. The impeller is a patented X-Air anti-airlock design. It draws on a 6 amp fuse, and the maker recommends automotive blade-type fuses. The barbs take 1 inch (25 mm) and 1-1/8 inch (28 mm) hose, and a non-return valve comes as standard on the outlets. The float activates at 1-3/4 inch (50 mm) of water and deactivates at 3/4 inch (19 mm). The pump is rated IP68 and has 29-1/2 inch (750 mm) of wire. The body and float are ABS, the shaft is SS316 and the seals are nitrile.
Our take
This suits a smaller boat, around 22 to 26 ft, that needs a simple automatic pump with a 1 inch outlet. It is not the pick for larger vessels. The X-Air anti-airlock claim is the maker's own. Check the float switch regularly, because if it fails to shut the pump off, the motor can drain the battery.
